How to Fix Sliding Drawers
- 1). Remove the drawer from the frame. Examine the corners for separations. Wood drawers can be glued with wood glue to join the corners where they have come undone. Fasten a long clamp on the drawer until the glue has dried.
- 2). Look for wood that has splintered or is rough. This could happen to the drawer or the frame. Use medium-grit sandpaper to sand any rough edges. Check the drawer by sliding it in and out.
- 3). Apply a lubricant to the drawer wherever the frame and drawer touch. Plain soap without a moisturizer is a common household item that tends to work well. Beeswax and paraffin wax are also good lubricants for drawers.
- 4). Seal the drawer slider with polyurethane once the drawer has been made to glide without sticking. Sealing the drawer will keep moisture from entering the wood when there is humidity in the home.
- 5). Check for bent sliders if the drawer is made of metal. If a slider has been bent, remove the slider from the drawer and straighten if possible. Metal sliders are generally made from heavy metal and may not be able to be straightened.
