How to Choose Tile for a Bathroom
- 1). Research the five main kinds of material used in bathroom tile; glazed ceramic, mosaic, porcelain, glass or stone. Note the benefits and drawbacks of each kind. Decide upon the limit of your budget after you have some knowledge of the general cost. Be aware that your taste and budget may not align, but that there is probably an affordable alternative. Compare many kinds of tiles and prices before making your selection.
- 2). Consider the needs of your household. If you have children, you may want to avoid ceramic tiles, which become slick when wet, and opt for safer stone tiles.
- 3). Select the size. Bear in mind the size of your bathroom; if you have a small bathroom you may want to stick with smaller sizes as larger ones may highlight the limited space. Consider grout work as well. Larger sizes create fewer grout lines, which means fewer grout lines to clean.
- 4). Select your color scheme. Use a color already incorporated into the house if you would like to create fluidity or a completely different color scheme to create a separate atmosphere and feel. Consider the size of the room and tile when selecting a color as darker colors make things look smaller.
