    Accessing the Export Tool

    • Click "File" on the QuickTime or third-party application's main toolbar. Click "Export" or "Export 3D," and then "QuickTime Movie..." to access the QuickTime exporting tool. This method of creating a QuickTime file quickly moves your movie files from the application's time-line to the export tool.

    Selecting a Setting Attributes

    • Click "Options" once the QuickTime exporting tool dialog box opens, and then "Settings" to select video attributes for your movie in accordance with the frame rate and compression of your movie's existing footage. For the "Data Rate" setting, click "Restrict to 2000 kbits/sec" for a movie you plan on sharing with others via the Internet or email. For the "Encoding" option, click "Best quality (Multi-pass)," and then "OK" to finalize the setting.

If you want a smaller, final QuickTime movie, do not click the check box next to "Include Alpha Channel." Clicking this option will result in a large movie file due to the application placing a transparent background behind your movie.

If you plan on doing video compositing, combining additional videos and images within the final QuickTime file, click the "Include Alpha Channel" option but make sure you have enough hard drive or external storage space to accommodate the final file.

    Export Settings

    • Click the "Motion Blur" option, within the QuickTime exporting tool dialog box, to smooth any transitions between events on your movie's time-line, if you haven't manually placed transitions within your movie. Otherwise set this option to "None" since motion blur slows down the exporting process, known as rendering.

If your movie contains captions, notes and other elements you want your audience to read in the final movie, enter a time value in the "Event Duration" option to pause your movie so your audience can read the elements.

If your movie contains any elements you have highlighted within the time-line, click the "Only Pause on Selected Events" options so the final movie will pause at these highlighted elements.

    Movie Dimension Size

    • Click "Size" to select the final outputting size you want your movie to be -- 640-by-480 or another setting. Click the check box next to "Deinterlace Source Video," and then "OK" to finalize the settings.

    Setting "Audio" Options

    • Click the check box next to "Sound" and click "Settings" to specify the audio settings for your QuickTime movie. For a standard movie, you want to use basic stereo settings. Set the audio setting values to "Format = AAC," "Channels = Stereo," "(LR) Rate = 48.000kHz," "Quality = Best," and "Target Bit Rate = 128" -- and then click "OK" to accept the settings.

    Finalizing the Exporting Process

    • Enter a name for your movie in the "Save as:" box and click "Save" to start the exporting process. The processing time varies depending on the amount of movie files present on the application's time-line and the options checked.

    Sharing QuickTime Movies

    • Publish the movie file to the Internet using a video-sharing website or your own website; or send the file as an email attachment if your email application can accept large files.
