How to Cut Out Part of a Photo in CS5
- 1). Click "File" and "Open." Select the image you want to edit. Click "Open." Double-click on the layer in the "Layers" panel. Click "OK" in the "New Layer" window.
- 2). Select the "Crop" tool from the "Tools" bar if you want to cut out the outer portion of the image. Click and drag across the photo to select the area of the image you want to keep. Click the checkmark icon in the "Options" bar to crop the image.
- 3). Select the "Rectangular Marquee" or "Elliptical Marquee" tool from the "Tools" bar if you want to cut out a rectangular or elliptical area from anywhere in the photo. Click and drag across the photo to select the area of the image you want to remove. Press "Delete" on your keyboard to remove the selected area. To cut out the selection and save it to memory, press "Control" (Windows) or "Command" (Mac) and "X" on your keyboard.
- 4). Select the "Lasso" tool from the "Tools" bar if you want to cut out a free-form shape from the image. Draw around the area of the image you want to remove by clicking and dragging the mouse. End the drawing in the location where you began to complete the selection. Press "Delete" on your keyboard. To cut out the selection and save it to memory, press "Control" (Windows) or "Command" (Mac) and "X" on your keyboard.
