Mirror Tile Ideas

    The Great Illusion

    • Mirror citywise: in a large scale

Mirror tiles applied strategically have the ability to expand your space. For example, if your fireplace juts out into the room a little too far, placing mirror tiles on either side of the adjoining walls will fool your eye into thinking that placement and symmetry are better than they are and that the room is larger than it is.

    Kitchen Brightness

    • Is there ever enough light in the kitchen? Two ways to pump up the light in your kitchen are to use under-cabinet lighting with a mirror tile back splash. The illumination will bounce off the back wall and increase the light considerably. A mirror back splash also is easy to clean. See the link below for photos of actual applications.

    Book It

    • MIrror doors catch the light

Want added depth inside a bookshelf or cabinet? Cover the back wall with mirror tile. If you display art objects and have small downlights or tube lights inside, the effect will be a showcase--even from a distance.

    Divide and Conquer

    • Attach mirror tiles to a room screen divider. You can make your own by getting three lightweight hollow-core doors. Link them together with full-bending piano-type hinges and install feet (use L-brackets) on each of the bottom sides for stability. Upholster one side of the screen in a beautiful fabric and glue mirror tiles to the opposite side. Use a glue gun to add decorative braid or molding over any seams or work areas. Move the divider around the room for different looks.

    Light-Catcher

    • If you have a sunken skylight, place mirror tiles on the surrounding areas to double the illumination. Just make sure no moisture accumulates in the area and apply clear silicone caulk at all major seams.

Should you need to cut mirror tiles to fit, wear gloves, use a heavy straight edge or right-angle iron, mark the cut line with a grease pencil, use a special glassier knife and work on a flat surface. Note: You can clamp down the straight edge if you cannot hold it securely yourself. After you've made the score, turn the mirror over and gently split it. Dressing Up

    • Don't have a way to see if your slip is showing or if your trouser cuff is hanging properly? Install a mirrored area in your dressing closet. Use large sections of tile or huge mirror tile pieces.

    Broken Mirror Blues?

    • Bath: More mirror, the better

Upset that an extra large mirror has broken? If it's a fairly good quality mirror and the back reflective paint and quality are good, create a broken mirror back splash behind your bathtub. Just assemble the pieces until they create a configuration you like, affix them to the wall with a strong mastic and spread grout over the tiles, then clean.

    Table Inspiration

    • Mirrored placemats add to the festivity

Apply mirrored tile to a sturdy box. Use it as a pedestal for a centerpiece for your next dinner party. Surround it with candles and your guests will be impressed by the glitter. It's great for a New Year's Eve dinner.

    Etched Anyone?

    • Go to artisans such as sandcastlestudio.com/mirrors or mirrorgraphicssite.com and find examples of lovely mirror artwork to display prominently in any area of your home. You also can try craft kits, such as Rub 'n Buff or the Glass Etching Kit and create your own mirror illusions. See: glass-etching-kits.com.

    Let There Be Light-Light

    • Mirror tile sheets with a fused backing are easy to install and look stunning under a set of sconces. Ask your electrician to install your fixtures over the mirrored squares. It's a great way to amplify the light.
