How to Remotely Edit a Registry to Allow Remote Assistance

    • 1). Click the Windows Orb on the local computer. Type "Regedit" and press "Enter" to open the Registry Editor.

    • 2). Click the "File" menu item and select "Connect to network registry." A dialog window opens. Type the name of the remote computer you want to access and press "Enter." Notice the remote computer's registry directories are shown on the left side of the editor.

    • 3). Navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server" in the remote computer's registry.

    • 4). Double-click the value labeled "fAllowToGetHelp." Type "1" in the "Value" text box and click "OK." This saves the new setting on the remote computer and allows remote assistance access.
