How to Repair Windows Update in the Registry
- 1). Open the "Start" menu. Type "regedit" into the Search box and press "Enter." Select "Regedit.exe" from the "Programs" list. Enter the administrator password if you are prompted for one.
- 2). Navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS" in the left side of the screen. Right-click on "COMPONENTS." Select "Export." Name the file "COMPONENTS" and save it to a safe location on your computer.
- 3). Right-click on "PendingXmlIdentifier" in the right side of the Registry Editor and select "Delete." Repeat the deletion process for "NextQueueEntryIndex" and "AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving."
- 4). Reboot the computer. Try to download updates from Windows Update again.
