    Repairing Physically Damaged Screens

    • 1). Contact the manufacturer of your TV to order a new screen. Unfortunately, a physically damaged screen will need to be replaced, as there are no individual repairable parts on the screen itself. The owner's manual will have a phone number and website where you can get support and order parts.

    • 2). Unplug the TV from the wall outlet.

    • 3). Lay the TV face down on a table top that is covered with a heavy, soft blanket to avoid scratching the TV.

    • 4). Unscrew the back. Phillips screws are commonly used. Use small bowls to place screws in so as not to lose them.

    • 5). Unscrew the frame's screws around the screen. Each make and model TV is a little different, so you will have to carefully examine the location of these screws.

    • 6). Draw a diagram showing any plugs that you must disconnect from the screen or chassis in order to remove the screen. Or, stick masking tape on plugs and their sockets, and write a letter or number on the tape to match them up.

    • 7). Remove the old screen and place the new one in position. In reverse order of removing screws and plugs, reinstall them.

    Repairing Dead And Stuck Pixels

    • 1). Connect a VGA cable from the output of your computer to the VGA input jack on your TV. A "stuck pixel" will appear as a small illuminated dot on your LCD screen that is always there, even when the background should be black.

    • 2). Purchase a computer software program designed to attempt stuck pixel repair, such as jscreenfix and killdeadpixel (see References and Resources for Web addresses).

    • 3). Run the program as per instructions. These programs produce an animated image that tries to "massage" any dead pixels into working by forcing them to change rapidly. This will take 20 minutes or more to attempt repair.

    • 4). Locate the spot on your screen where a "dead pixel" is located. A "dead pixel" is one that appears black all of the time, even when the picture background is white.
