Kitchen Cleanup Procedures Checklist
- Each time you clean the kitchen, make note of any cleaning supplies that are low, or any tools that need to be replaced. Keeping all the supplies in one container, such as a bucket, and keeping all of the tools in one spot in the house lets you keep better inventory of all the items you need. Also, make certain that all the cleaners are securely closed after you use them so that they don't easily spill if they are knocked over.
- The refrigerator, oven, microwave and any other cooking appliances should always be cleaned. Wipe down the refrigerator shelves and inner walls and throw out old food. Wipe the outside of the refrigerator, including the handle. Scrape any splattered food from the microwave interior, including the inside of the door. Remember to remove and clean the stove burner grates, and scrub the spots underneath the grates clean.
- Because the surfaces in the kitchen often have food placed on them, be sure to sanitize them. This is true of countertops, racks for dishes and pots, stove tops and any equipment that food is usually placed on. Scrape off all food particles that are left on these surfaces first, then wash the areas off with water and a cleaning solution. Rinse the areas clean with water, then sanitize the equipment or surfaces with a chemical sanitizer and allow to dry.
- The kitchen countertops and floor are easy-to-spot areas that need cleaning, and should be cleaned on an ongoing basis. Remember other areas, such as the kitchen ceiling, walls, inside the cabinets and the cabinet handles. The cabinets under the kitchen sink are often used to store the cleaning chemicals and materials, so make sure there are no leaking containers or even leaks from the sink. Clean any cobwebs from the corners of the ceiling, and wash down the walls to remove any unsightly stains. Scrub the exteriors of any kitchen wastebaskets, which often collect stains from dripping food tossed inside them. Remember to clean the wall baseboard, too.
