How to Replace the Lens on a Nikon Coolpix
- 1). Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove all screws from the sides of the Nikon. Set the screws aside.
- 2). Insert the tip of your case opener tool (available from an electronics store) in the seam between the panel on the right side of the unit and the body of the camera. Gently pry open the panel.
- 3). Remove the two internal screws in the side of the camera that hold the back panel in place. Insert your plastic pry tool in the seam at which the back panel meets the camera body, and pry up to remove it.
- 4). Remove the four screws on each corner of the rear LCD screen. Then lift up the screen and unplug the thick orange ribbon cable from its side.
- 5). Remove all screws on the metal plate that covers the green motherboard. Remove the plate to expose the motherboard.
- 6). Locate the black camera module to the side of the motherboard. Unplug the two orange ribbon cables where they connect to the side of the board and lift the camera module out of the unit.
- 7). Locate the circular lens on the camera module and remove all screws holding it in place. Set the old lens aside. Replace with the new lens (available from your Nikon retailer or online). Reassemble your Nikon in the reverse order from how you took it apart.
