How to Remove Window Trim
- 1). Insert the end of one pry bar underneath the outer edge of the piece of trim to be removed. Position the bar at one end of the trim.
- 2). Place a flat wood scrap between the pry bar's handle and the wall. This wood scrap will protect the wall from being scratched by the pry bar.
- 3). Insert the tip of the other pry bar on the opposite side of the same piece of trim. This bar should be next to the window.
- 4). Press both pry bars simultaneously so that both of them are pushing upward underneath the piece of trim. Use the lightest force possible to begin with and increase if necessary. This will protect the window and wall from damage.
- 5). Use one pry bar and a hammer for pieces of trim that won't come loose using the previous method. Insert the tip of the pry bar underneath the trim, and tap the other end with the hammer as hard as necessary in order to loosen the trim. Once the trim is loose, you'll probably be able to press the bar with your hand to continue to wiggle the trim free. Be aware that this method is more likely to damage your wall and should only be used if absolutely necessary.
