How to Repair the Autofocus on My Canon XTI
- 1). Turn the camera off and remove the battery from the camera. Hold the camera in one hand, press the lens release button on the front of the camera and rotate the lens clockwise one quarter turn until the lens releases from the camera.
- 2). Moisten a cotton swab with a small amount of rubbing alcohol and clean the metal contacts on both the camera and on the lens. Use a microfiber cloth to further clean and remove any moisture before re-attaching the lens.
- 3). Attach the lens to the camera by lining up the red dots on the camera mounting bracket to the red dot on the outside of the lens barrel and turn the lens one quarter turn clockwise until the lens locks in place.
- 4). Insert the battery into the camera, turn the camera on, press the "AF" button on the rear of the camera and set the focusing mode to "One Shot" by rotating the dial behind the shutter release. If the lens you are using has a switch for "MF/AF," make sure the lens is set to "AF" for auto focus. You are ready to use the camera.
