- 1). Insert the Windows Live OneCare installation disk into your CD ROM drive or download a free version online by logging onto OneCare Live's website and double-clicking on the install option. Choose the standard configuration and choose options as the software goes through the installation process. The software will proceed through most of the steps on its own so just allow the software to completely install. When the software has been loaded, restart your computer.
- 2). Right-click on the "Windows Live OneCare" button at the bottom of the screen in the taskbar. Choose the option labelled, "Open Windows Live OneCare" by highlighting the option and clicking the left mouse button once, or you can open Windows Live OneCare by left-clicking on your Startup menu and choosing it from the options in the list. A Windows Live OneCare screen should open now.
- 3). Choose the option labeled, "Change Settings" on the left-hand side of the Windows Live OneCare screen, underneath the "Quick Links" choices; another screen should open on its own. Choose the "Firewall" tab at the top of the screen by left-clicking on the tab once. Click on "Advanced Settings" at the bottom of the firewall tab screen; this should open another screen with more tab choices. Verify which programs you would like to allow or block in the firewall by clicking on the appropriate option next to each choice.
- 4). Read through the option screens as Windows Live OneCare continues setting itself up. Answer any questions and prepare backup or recovery disks as necessary. Restart your computer when you are done with the configuration of Windows Live OneCare. If screens pop up from time to time with instructions from Windows Live OneCare, follow the recommendations listed, creating new recovery disks about once a week.
