Adjust the page size for your sign by clicking the File menu, then Page Setup. Choose "Custom" under Paper Size and input the size for your sign if it isn't the standard 8.5 by 11 page. For Word 2007, the page size command is located under the Page Layout tab.

    • 3). Type the text for your sign in the Word window.

    • 4). Click and drag over the text with your mouse to select it.

      Word formatting palette.

Use the commands on the Formatting Palette (or the Home tab in Word 2007) to customize the font, size, style and color of the letters. For a large sign, you'll want to choose a large font size like 96-point or more. Word's maximum font size is 1,638-point.

    • 6). Click "Save" under the File menu (or Office menu in Word 2007) to save your changes as you're working.

    • 7). Click "Print" under the File menu (or Office menu in Word 2007) to print the sign when you have the text formatted the way you want. If the sign's page size is larger than the paper size your printer can hold, Word will print the sign on multiple pages you will need to tape together.
