How to Secure Wooden Posts to a Wood Floor
- 1). Trace the outline of the post mount on the floor in the desired location of the post using a pencil. Mark the floor mounting holes in the mount onto the floor.
- 2). Drill a 1-inch-deep pilot hole in the center of each mounting hole mark.
- 3). Center the holes in the post mount over the pilot holes in the floor. Drive wood screws through the holes in the mount into the floor to fasten the mounting plate to the floor.
- 4). Slide the bottom end of the post into the mounting plate opening. Place a post level onto the post and hold it level.
- 5). Drive wood screws through the holes in the mount into the sides of the post to fasten it in place, keeping it level.
- 6). Fit the wooden trim boards around the sides at the base of the post to conceal the mounting plate. The bottom ends of the trim boards should fit tightly against the floor.
- 7). Drive finish nails through the trim boards into the post every 2 inches along the joints to fasten the trim boards to the post.
- 8). Set the nails 1/16 inch into the surface of the trim boards with a nail set, which is a tool made to drive nail heads below the wood's surface, and hammer.
