How to Heat With Space Heaters

    • 1). Turn down the heat the rest of the house. Don't turn the heat completely off, since that heat provides protection against freezing pipes, but the heat can be turned down significantly.

    • 2). Choose the appropriate space heater. If the heater will be used constantly, choose a radiator-type heater for it's safety. For quicker area heating, use a convection heater with a wire heating element. For spot heating, such as at a work station, use a radiant heater; these don't heat a room well, but offer instant object heating.

    • 3). Place the space heater in the room you need heated. This should be placed in an unobstructed area away from easily ignitable objects, such as fabrics or paper that may accidentally become lodged into the heater and ignite against the heating element. It should also be placed away from trafficked areas, where the danger of tripping or knocking it over exists.

    • 4). Set the space heater to a comfortable heat level by following your space heater's manual. Turn the heater on to begin warming.
