How to Convert a CD Audiobook to MP3

    Windows Media Player Conversions

    • 1). Download and install the latest version of WMP from Microsoft's website. Agree to the terms of use and launch the program.

    • 2). Insert your CD audiobook into your computer and wait for Windows Media Player to recognize the disc.

    • 3). Click the "Rip Settings" tab in WMP's main screen and hit "Format." Choose "MP3" from the drop-down list of import options.

    • 4). Navigate to the WMP library screen and hit the "Rip CD" button to begin converting your audiobook to MP3 format. Your new files will be automatically stored in the Windows Media Player library.

    iTunes

    • 1). Launch your web browser and visit Apple's iTunes site. Download and install the latest version of iTunes. Agree to the licensing terms and open the program.

    • 2). Insert the audiobook CD into your computer. Click your CD's icon in the "Source" list on the left side of the iTunes screen to reveal all of the CD's tracks.

    • 3). Make sure all tracks you want converted are checked. Click the "Import CD" button and rip your CD to your computer. Wait until all tracks are converted.

    • 4). Select "Preferences" from the Edit menu at the top of the screen and hit the "Import Settings" button.

    • 5). Choose "MP3 Encoder" from the drop-down list of formatting options. Click "OK" twice to exit back to the iTunes library.

    • 6). Locate and highlight your newly imported CD tracks in the main iTunes library. Right-click the files and select "Create MP3 Version." Your new MP3s will automatically appear below your imported tracks once the conversion is complete.
