How to Find a Book Distributor
- 1). Obtain a business license and tax number for your business before applying to buy wholesale from distributors. Refer to the requirements for opening a business (see Resources).
- 2). Determine what type of books you want to sell and buy from a distributor. Some distributors specialize in genres and book types, such as hard-covered, paperback, etc.
- 3). Search by using one of the many directory websites available. For example, go to Business.com and search for "Book Distributors and Wholesalers" (see Resources). Another example is to search for distributors in business directory like Yahoo Business. There is a long list of book distributors on Yahoo's directory, and this is a good way to find specific distributors that specialize in your needs, such as comic books or used books (see Resources).
- 4). Go to a distributor's website and review the provided information. For example, go to the Independent Publishers Group website (see Resources). Click on the "Browse" option on the first page to see a list of titles that the company distributes. Browsing through the distributor's titles is the quickest and easiest way to know if a publisher is right for your needs.
- 5). Once you've established that a distributor carries the books you want, research their ordering methods and policies to see if these also meet your needs. For example, go to the Independent Publisher Group website and click on the "Order Info" option on the left side of the page. You have five different options for ordering which include calling, faxing, emailing, writing and ordering online.
