Suggestions on Cost Saving Ideas for Organization
- Operating a successful organization sometimes requires a revamp of the budget to cut some costs. Cutting the budget does not have to cost you productivity, however. Look at your day-to-day operations, cut where you can--such as product delivery--and valuate services that you have but don't need.
- Review your mailing list to eliminate old or incorrect addresses. If you append the additional four digits at the end of each ZIP code, you will be eligible for a discount offered by the U.S. Postal Service that includes a barcode. Eliminate any addressees who do not respond to mailings. If you use "take action" mailed material, create a log of individuals who respond, and remove those who do not respond from your mailing list.
- Advertise in other forms of mail such as statements and ongoing newsletters; this will save you significant postage. Use free media to advertise specials or upcoming events. Send out a press release announcing new services or products. This ensures the announcement of the event or service for free. Accept requests for speaking engagements to educate the community and potential customers while advertising your brand and your services.
- Purchase used office equipment and furniture. You can buy these items at a significant discount, but they are in just as impressive shape as new items. Used computers often contain upgrades, so you still purchase a quality product. Recycle your old printer cartridges to get a discount on new cartridges.
- Offer new professionals the opportunity to learn and work with you through internships. Hiring interns yields free or low-cost help, and gives local college students experience in the industry. Interns work for course credit or for a reduced rate, and they are eager to learn and succeed within your organization. Internships may turn into a quality job recommendation or even a permanent position in the company.
