How to Remodel Kitchen Sinks
- 1). Remove any silicone caulk from around the sink with a utility knife.
- 2). Remove soap scum, grease and wax by wiping the sink with acetone applied to a dry sponge.
- 3). Sand the sink with 80-grit sandpaper.
- 4). Remove any rust with a wire brush.
- 5). Repair any chips or cracks with a porcelain repair solution applied to a dry paintbrush and allow the repaired area to dry for one hour.
- 6). Dry the faucet and drain with a dry cloth.
- 7). Apply masking tape to the faucet and drain to completely cover them and trim any masking tape that is covering the sink with a razor knife.
- 8). Wipe the sink again with a sponge soaked with acetone.
- 9). Spray a light coat of bonding agent on the sink, holding the can 6 to12 inches away from the sink, spraying in a sweeping motion, left to right, starting at the drain and working towards the sink edges. Overlap each stroke 50 percent. Allow the bonding agent to dry for 15 minutes.

Spray 3 light coats of refinishing paint coating on the sink, holding the can 6 to 8 inches from the surface, spraying with short stroking motions. Allow the first and second coats to dry 5 minutes before continuing. Allow the third coat to dry for 30 minutes before removing the masking tape and applying new silicone caulk. Allow the new finish to dry for 24 hours before using the sink.
