How to Reindex a WMV File
- 1). Download the Windows Media Encoder from the official website using the link in the "Resources" section of this article. Install and run the program.
- 2). Click "Convert a file" on the list of wizards and click "OK".
- 3). Click the top "Browse" button. Navigate to the location of the WMV file that is exhibiting problems and double click it. Windows Media Encoder will automatically use the same name for the reindexed file, adding a "-1" to the end. Click "Next".
- 4). Select "File Download" and click "Next".
- 5). Select an encoding method for the audio and video streams of your file. Since this process re-encodes the original file, thus re-compressing material that is already compressed, you should choose the highest-quality encoding methods for which you have hard-drive space, so as to minimize quality loss.
- 6). Click "Finish" to begin re-coding the WMV file. If the original file was not damaged beyond repair, the new file should play successfully.
