Cellular Antenna Booster Safety
- A cellular antenna booster is a device installed in a vehicle or home. It amplifies antenna signals through an external antenna and directs the power to the cell phone being used.
- All cellular antenna boosters must establish their safety compliance with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations of having no more than 3 watts of power emanating from an external antenna. Typically, the external antenna for boosters is installed on the outside of a vehicle or home, away from direct contact with people.
- Though the FCC and the American Cancer Society have deemed cell phone antennas safe for everyday use, consumers can take extra safety steps by using hands-free ear pieces to keep the cellular antenna away from their body. The radio frequencies from the antenna will then be farther from human tissue, negating the concern of harm from the device.
