How to Time a 1994 Nissan KA 24E Engine
- 1). Turn your car on in an area with space to work on your engine. Turn off all accessories in your car including the air conditioning/heat and radio.
- 2). Chock the wheels of your car with wheel chocks for safety purposes. Put your car's transmission in drive if you have an automatic transmission or neutral if you have a manual transmission. Apply your car's emergency brake and bring the engine to an idle speed of 750 rpm.
- 3). Exit your vehicle and open the hood to work on your KA 24E engine.
- 4). Connect the timing light to positive terminal with the red clip first and then connect the timing light to the negative terminal with the black clip second. Next, connect the timing light to the No. 1 spark plug and the main crankshaft pulley.
- 5). Check the timing light on the pulley and see where the ignition timing mark falls. You can bring your car back to its pre-operation state if you are satisfied with the current ignition timing.
- 6). Use your wrench to loosen the distributor lock-down bolt located at the base of the distributor housing. Disconnect the distributor vacuum hose and be careful not to disconnect any other vacuum hoses connecting to the engine.
- 7). Plug the distributor vacuum hose into the electronic spark computer and ground the carburetor switch with jumper cables. You can now adjust the ignition timing.
- 8). Rotate the distributor with your hand until the timing mark drifts to 15 degrees or whatever ignition timing you want. Do not deviate too far from 15 degrees or you will risk damaging your engine.
- 9). Unplug the distributor vacuum hose from the electronic spark computer and reconnect it to the distributor housing. Use your wrench to tighten the distributor lock-down bolt and remove the jumper cables from the carburetor switch. Remove the timing light from the engine and the wheel chocks from your wheels.
