How to Store Oil Drain Pans in a Truck Shop
- 1). Pour used motor oil from the oil drain pan into a large storage container to be recycled. If a drain pan doesn't have a pour spout, use a funnel to guide the oil into the container.
- 2). Spread cat litter or commercial oil absorber over oil spills where you changed the oil. This will absorb the oil from the floor and prevent slips in the shop.
- 3). Sweep up the oily cat litter with a push broom and properly dispose of the litter.
- 4). Spread a large drop cloth in the area you have designated for storing your oil drain pans. The area should be easily accessible, but outside high traffic areas.
- 5). Place a wooden pallet over the drop cloth to hold the oil drain pans. The wooden pallet will elevate the drain pans and the drop cloth will contain oil drips.
- 6). Stack your oil drain pans on top of the wooden pallet starting with the largest pan on the bottom and the smallest pan on the top.
- 7). Change the drop cloth regularly as the oil drips build up on the cloth.
