- 1). Wrap pipe thread seal tape clockwise around a sprinkler riser's threads. Apply a double-thick layer of tape to the threads. Inspect your long-range, rotating sprinkler for marks that indicate its rotational range and spray range. Before installing the sprinkler, use a tape measure to gauge the reach of your sprinkler and ensure that its spray will hit both the trees and the grass at the same time.
- 2). Press the internal threads of a long-range, rotating sprinkler against the external threads of the tape-wrapped riser. While gently pressing the sprinkler against the riser, twist the sprinkler clockwise to the lock the sprinkler's threads with the riser's threads. Turn the sprinkler clockwise until it's hand-tight.
- 3). Fasten a pipe wrench's jaw around the sprinkler riser's shank. Fasten the adjustable wrench's jaw around the sprinkler's rim. Hold the pipe wrench while turning the adjustable wrench clockwise. Turn the adjustable wrench clockwise to fully tighten the sprinkler onto the riser. Turn on the water supply and observe the sprinkler's coverage.
- 1). Attach one end of a garden hose to a hose bibb. Drag the garden hose to a position between the trees and the grass that you want to irrigate.
- 2). Attach a long-range, portable sprinkler to the open end of the garden hose. Place the sprinkler on the ground, roughly halfway between the trees and the grass. If you are using an oscillating sprinkler, remember that oscillating sprinklers spray on a plane perpendicular to the direction of the sprinkler's bars.
- 3). Return the hose bibb. Turn the hose bibb to the "on" position. Observe the portable sprinkler's coverage and move the sprinkler if necessary.
