How to Plant Beautiful Containers With Annual Flowers
- 1). Mix together equal parts of peat moss, garden soil and builder's sand with the 14-14-14 slow release fertilizer. Fill a container with soil mix to 2 inches from the top of the container.
- 2). Add a tall plant for height. Use Shasta daisies, geraniums, canna plants, snapdragons, Angelonia or ferns.
- 3). Add a trailing plant. Choices include petunias, Fuchsias, Verbena, Lysimachia, Dichondra, Nasturtiums, Scaevola and sweet potato vine.
- 4). Plant something brightly colored, perhaps a tuberous begonia, a Croton, Coleus, or the Pretty Much Picasso petunia.
- 5). For a filler, plant a zonal geranium, Heuchera, scented geranium or ornamental grass. Edible lettuce and red stemmed Swiss chard also make a nice filler.
- 6). Water thoroughly. The container garden may need to be watered every day.
