Discard kitchen waste, leftover food and other biodegradable waste in one bin. Turn the food into compost, which can then be used as fertilizer. - 3). Place the nonrecyclable waste or that which cannot be composted in a third bin.

Rinse out the trash container at the side of the road using a hose. Fill the bin with 6 inches of water. - 2). Add equal parts of vinegar and lemon juice (2 cups each) into the bin. Let the solution settle for 30 minutes.

Mop the solution about the trash bin. - 4). Throw out the solution, and hose down the container. Allow it to dry.
