- 1). Click the Start button and go to the "Control Panel." Click on "Add or Remove Programs" to open a new window displaying all installed programs on the computer.
- 2). Click on the check box for "Show Updates" to see Windows updates in the list. Give the list a moment to populate.
- 3). Scroll down the "Add or Remove Programs" window and locate "Windows Search 4.0" or "KB940157" and click on it. Click on the "Remove" button at the top and uninstall Windows Search 4.0 from XP. Allow the uninstallation to finish, and reboot.
