How Do I Install the Serpentine Belt on a 1992 S-10 Chevy Pickup?
- 1). Release the tension by using a 3/8-inch drive ratchet and socket combination on the belt tensioner assembly. Locate the tensioner assembly by using the belt routing diagram located on the top of the radiator shroud. The tensioner will be marked as "Ten" or "Tensioner." The tensioner pulley will move to allow for the removal and addition of the serpentine belt, using a ratchet to push downward on the assembly.
- 2). Remove the old serpentine belt. Reroute the new serpentine belt onto the pulleys by referring to the belt routing diagram. Route the belt to every pulley except for the tensioner pulley.
- 3). Release the tension on the tensioner pulley again and slide the new belt onto the pulley. Let go of the tensioner assembly so that it now applies pressure to the serpentine belt.
- 4). Recheck the belt routing diagram versus the way you have the belt routed to ensure that it is routed correctly. Double-checking this project, before starting the vehicle, will save you from having to buy another new belt or damaging internal engine components by spinning them the wrong way.
