How to Change a Headlight Assembly

    • 1). Open, and lift, the hood. Stabilize it with the hood stand. Using a screwdriver, remove the front grill by unscrewing the connecting points and bolts from the top and sides.

    • 2). Locate, and loosen, the screws around the headlight assembly with a screwdriver, socket wrench or crescent wrench.

    • 3). Locate the wiring at the back of the headlight. Disconnect the headlight bulb by twisting and releasing the bulb holder. If the headlight is a sealed bulb, disconnect the headlight from any wiring. After completely disconnected, carefully pull the headlight out of the frame.

    • 4). Use a shop rag to clean the cavity for the headlight. When clean, insert a new headlight by hand. Secure it with the original screws and hardware, using a screwdriver or wrench.

    • 5). Plug the wiring back into the rear of the new headlight if a sealed beam or insert and twist into lock position the bulb in a separated headlight. Hand-place the front grill back into place and screw the securing bolts back into place to hold the grill.

    • 6). Close the front hood and put the car key in the ignition. Turn the car electricity on and test that the headlight works when turned on. Turn the car engine on and confirm the headlight still turns on correctly.
