How to Change the Wiper Blades on a 1963 GMC Chevy Truck
- 1). Pull the wiper blade arm away from the windshield vertically. The air has a spring inside of it that crates downward pressure that keeps the blade against the windshield. Once the wiper arm is pulled away from the window the spring will work in reverse and keep the wiper blade from falling back down toward the windshield. This will allow for easier removal of the blade and keep the wiper arm from scratching the windshield while the blade is removed.
- 2). Release the latch located on top of the wiper blade by pulling up on it. This latch is connected where the wiper arm connects to the wiper blade and it latches to a pin that extends from the wiper arm. If you attempt to pull the wiper blade off the wiper without unlatching the wiper blade it can damage the wiper blade and wiper arm.
- 3). Pull the wiper off the pin. The wiper might be stuck depending on the age of the wiper blade; some force may be necessary to remove the wiper blade. The metal that connects the wiper blade to the wiper arm pin is weak and can be crushed around the wiper arm pin when the latch is closed.
- 4). Insert the new wiper blade onto the wiper arm pin by pressing the two together. Since the wiper blade is new, excessive force is not required to press the two together.
- 5). Close the latch to secure the wiper blade to the wiper arm pin. Lower the wiper arm back down to the windshield. Do not let the wiper arm fall against the windshield with force.
