Preparing and Building a Diner Booth

Measure the space where the diner booth will go. Mark out where the table and booths will be. Ensure that the booths will not be too close or too far from the table -- once the booths are installed, it can be very difficult to rearrange them. If the table or booths are going up against walls with baseboard moulding, be sure to account for that. With all your measurements in hand, buy enough wood to build the frames of the booth, the exterior of the booths, and the table.

Build the frames. For strong frames, use wood glue and screws to supplement each other. Use the straight edge and level to make sure that all corners are right and all edges are level. Consider adding decorative elements such as a hinged top to the seat of the diner booth or moulding to the side of the booth that will face out. For extra security, screw the frames of the booths into the walls. When building the table, be sure that it is level and is fully supported by its legs and/or the wall.

Finish the booth and table. Seal, stain or paint the table, or cover it in tile, or any other food-safe material. Finish the booths by upholstering both the seat and the back in the same or coordinating fabrics. To upholster, glue the upholstery foam onto the seat top or the back panel. Stretch the fabric over the foam and staple it down on the other side of the board. Attach the boards to the frame using screws, nails, or nuts and bolts.
