- 1). Raise the hood on your 1991 Honda Accord. Make sure that the hood is secured so that it will not drop down on your head while you are working on your car.
- 2). Remove the gas cap from your gas tank. This will help to relieve any pressure that builds up in your fuel line.
- 3). Locate the emission box, which is a black box lined with hoses, on the passenger side of the firewall. Disconnect the two hose connectors that are found on the top of the box.
- 4). Disconnect the two vacuum hoses that are found on the top of the charcoal canister, which is located directly beside the emission box on the passenger side of the firewall.
- 5). Use a 10-mm socket to remove the two bolts that secure the emission box to the firewall. Once the bolts are unscrewed, you will be able to lift up the emission box and move it out of the way.
- 6). Unscrew the 17-mm fuel filter bolt for the fuel filter box located beneath the emission box. Disconnect the metal fuel line by using a 14-mm line wrench. Use a 10-mm wrench to remove the two bolts connecting the fuel filter bracket to the firewall of the engine. Lastly, remove the third bolt that connects the fuel filter to the fuel filter bracket.
- 7). Lift the lid on your fuel filter box and remove the old fuel filter, replacing it with the new one. Be sure to thread the fuel pipe by turning the bolt by hand rather than using the 10-mm wrench, so that you do not damage the delicate fuel line. Reconnect everything else in the reverse order that you took it off.
- 8). Start the car and continue to inspect the fuel lines under the hood to make sure that there are not any gas leaks.
