How to Install Prefinished Oak Trim
- 1). Measure along the bottom of the first wall, from the starting corner to the other end. Transfer the measurement to a piece of prefinished oak trim, putting two marks on the top of the piece with the measured span between them.
- 2). Set the trim on your miter saw in the position it will be against the wall. Set it so one mark is located in front of the blade. Swivel the blade 45 degrees pointing inward, toward the middle of the measured span. Make the cut.
- 3). Move the trim so the other end is in front of the blade. Swivel the blade 45 degrees in the opposite direction from before, so it's again pointing at the measured span. Make the cut.
- 4). Repeat the process to cut additional pieces of trim for each wall, mitering the ends of each piece of trim.
- 5). Stand the first two cut pieces of trim in place along the bottom of the walls, with the mitered ends butted against each other to form the corner. Shoot headless pins along the top and bottom edges of both pieces, every 10 to 12 inches. Repeat this step to install the rest of the trim.
