If you are an avid outdoor person you will know that one of the main resources you need on the trail is batteries. So it might be a bit scary if you got yourself stuck and didn't have any power or anything to find your way home. This is why you have to own a 12v battery charger.

You may wonder what is so different about this specific type of charger. Basically, they are designed to charge different 12v batteries back up to full. Since some of them are used on water, they have to be resistant to moisture and they have to be fully waterproof.

Also, they need to be able to charge a battery without having access to electricity themselves; a battery within a battery in other words. Choosing the right 12v battery charger can be quite complicated.

You need to know what the capacity of your battery is, which is your main concern. But, you also need to think about the type of battery you have, what sort of environmental conditions you are likely to encounter, what the electrical conditions are, what the input voltage of your battery is, and how the risk of under or over charging is.

Having the right charger can significantly increase the lifespan of your battery, because it will charge it the right way time and time again. This also means that your time away will be safe, which is very important.

So what are smart chargers? These are able to charge your battery without intervention from you as soon as they become low. This gives a boost to your battery, charging it back up to 75%. The rest slowly gets charged at a later stage. There are also dual and single leg chargers. A single leg battery charger will only be able to charge a single battery, a dual one can charge two simultaneously.

There are now also marine battery chargers, obviously able to be used near water, like on a boat. Lastly, there are trickle chargers. These have a timer on them that can be set per default. They will switch on and off at times that you have set yourself. These are the best batteries for preventing under or over charging, because you will know exactly when they work and when they're switched off.

By having the right charger, your battery will always be full. This can only be achieved by having proper 12v battery chargers, that are made to work with your specific battery.
