    • 1). Park the vehicle on a level area and turn off the ignition. Open and secure the vehicle's hood. Locate the belt routing diagram on top of the flat surface of the fan shroud. Route the new serpentine belt by following the routing instructions from this diagram.

    • 2). Inspect the front of the engine and locate the self-adjusting belt tensioner. The tensioner has an idler pulley on the bottom of the tensioner arm. Use the square hole on the front of the idler pulley to rotate the tensioner.

    • 3). Insert the square end of the 1/2-inch drive breaker bar into the square hole of the idler pulley. Rotate the breaker bar counterclockwise to move the tensioner. This will relieve the tension from the belt.

    • 4). Pull the belt off of the tensioner idler pulley and release the breaker bar. The tensioner will retract until it reaches its original stopping point. Pull the breaker bar out of the idler pulley and out of the engine compartment.

    • 5). Remove the belt from all of the pulleys. Pull the belt out and match it to the new belt. Make sure that the new serpentine belt is the correct size as the old belt.

    • 6). Route the new belt around the big crankshaft pulley on the bottom of the motor. Finish routing the new belt around the accessory pulleys, as shown on the belt routing diagram.

    • 7). Rotate the tensioner idler pulley counterclockwise with the breaker bar. Slide the belt around the idler pulley and release the breaker bar. As the idler pulley is retracting against the belt, it will pull the slack from the belt. Pull the breaker bar off of the idler pulley and out of the engine compartment.

    • 8). Inspect the belt to make sure that it is seated properly inside of each pulley. Turn on the Toyota Paseo's ignition for about five to ten seconds to completely seat the new belt into each accessory pulley. Turn the engine off and shut the hood..
