How to Mix Concrete Mortar
- 1). Calculate how much concrete you'll need for your project by measuring the square footage of the project by multiplying the length by the width of the project.
- 2). Divide the square footage result by the depth needed. According to the Sandee's Soil and Rock, "320 is the magic number. 320 divided by any depth (in inches) will give you an "x" factor to divide into your square footage. For example, the form is 120 square feet and is 4 feet deep. Four feet is 48 inches. 320 ÷ 48 = 6.7 as your factor. 120 ÷ 6.7 = 17.9 yards of concrete needed."
- 3). Place 3 parts of masonry sand in a wheelbarrow.
- 4). Mix in 1 part of general use cement.
- 5). Add 1.5 parts of water and start pulling the cement and sand into the water with a shovel or garden hoe until well mixed.
