Things You'll Need

Instructions

1

Fill the bucket with warm water and dishwashing detergent. Swish the water around to mix the soap with the water.
2

Use the sponge to scrub and remove all traces of grease, dirt and dust on the kitchen cabinets. This will help your paint adhere better, and for a longer period of time. Rinse the sponge and go back over the cabinets with clean water, to rinse any soap residue. Allow to dry.
3

Apply your liquid sandpaper (Wil-Bond is the best-known brand) to your rag. The rag should be saturated, but not dripping wet.
4

Wipe down the surfaces that you want to refinish with the wet rag. This liquid sandpaper will soften the layer of paint or varnish, which will allow it to form a strong and permanent bond with the new paint. Work a small section at a time, such as one door at a time, because the liquid sandpaper needs to be covered with paint within 30 minutes, while the old paint is still soft.
5

Apply your paint to the still wet section that you have applied the liquid sand paper. Continue throughout the kitchen, applying liquid sandpaper and painting over with paint, until you have finished all the cabinetry in the kitchen. If a second coat of the paint is desired, repeat the process after the first coat of paint has completely dried.
