How to Make a Duct Tape Dressmaker's Mannequin
- 1). Place wax paper on the table or counter so it hangs over the edge. Cut four 2-foot long strips of duct tape and four 6-inch long strips. Stick the strips to the wax paper with most of the tape hanging off. Have a few strips of duct tape ready and close at hand to grab while working. Cut more as you go.
- 2). Have the model put on the long T-shirt. Wrap cellophane wrap around any exposed skin, such as the neck or the top of the legs.
- 3). Wrap duct tape around the model's rib cage. Wrap the tape so it fits snugly, but not so tight it prevents the model from moving.
- 4). Run a strip of duct tape from the center front of the rib cage, up the center of the sternum, to the top of the collar bone. Place shorter strips of duct tape all the way around the collar bone. Run a strip of duct tape down the center of the back from the collar bone to the top of the rib cage's duct tape.
- 5). Use longer strips of duct tape, up to 2 feet long, to run across the sides and back of the model's body. Use short pieces of duct tape, 6 inches or less, to encase and sculpt the curved front body sections.
- 6). Wrap the rest of the body, from the rib cage down to the upper thighs. Wrap two more layers of duct tape over the entire taped portion of the model's body.
- 7). Cut the duct tape and T-shirt straight up the center back using the scissors. Cut slowly and slightly lift the T-shirt away from the model.
- 8). Open the form enough to slide it off the front of the model. Seal the back opening with another layer of duct tape. Also close up the neck and arm holes with duct tape. Stuff the form loosely with foam.
- 9). Cut the cardboard oval to fit the open bottom end of the duct tape mannequin using scissors. Cut a 4-inch circle in the center of the cardboard.

Slide the PVC pipe into the circle, then push the pipe into the duct tape form until you feel resistance. Stuff the form with more foam until it feels tightly packed and firm. Slide the cardboard oval into the bottom of the form. Duct tape the cardboard to the form's edges and secure the PVC pipe with duct tape. - 11
Slide the exposed end of the PVC pipe into the Christmas tree stand and tighten the braces to hold the dressmaker's mannequin upright.
