    • 1). Put your hair up in ponytails, one on either side of your head. Measure the length from the ponytail holder to the length you want the dreads to be using a measuring tape. Measure and cut your yarn pieces to twice the length of this measurement. Use multiple strands of different yarns if desired. Cut enough strands to create enough thickness in the bundle to cover your hair.

    • 2). Layer the cut yarns, evenly stacked together, on a surface. Pull a ponytail holder around the bundle of cut yarns to the center. Pick up the ponytail holder, bending the bundle of yarns in half. Place another ponytail holder over the original ponytail holder, and pull it down over the bent area of the yarns about 1/2-inch down. Wrap the second ponytail holder a few times to secure it over the bent yarn bundle. The first ponytail holder is now the loop that you will use to secure the dreads to your hair.

    • 3). Hold the yarn bundle upright by the ponytail loop. Cut the bottom edge of the bundle to an even length.

    • 4). Repeat the above steps to make a second set of yarn dread pony falls. Use the same number of colors and varieties of yarn used in the original dread.
