Get Colorful: Crayola Tiles
About.com Rating
Who says you need to be a kid to enjoy the immense spectrum of colors offered by Crayola? It would likely be quite a challenge to find anyone out there who hasn’t heard of the crayon brand and who can’t further conjure an excited memory of opening up a fresh box -- the rainbow of colors, that very specific smell, the perfectly sharp tips just begging to be worn down to nothing.
If you’re in the design field, chances are good your trusty box of Crayolas always was near at hand.
And, if you’re anything like me, you tore through boxes faster than your parents could replace them.
Well, now you can take all those amazing colors you’ve loved and officially put them to use in your home designs with the Crayola branded collection of tile from Surfaces.
Colorful Glass
Creativity is most certainly the name of the game at Crayola, a company not content to rest on the 99% name recognition it already has achieved in U.S. consumer households.
Crayola vice president of licensing Warren Schorr said the partnership with Surfaces allows his company “to bring Crayola colors into homes in a unique way by bringing fun and creativity to kids’ spaces. The colors are vibrant and the shapes are playful and fun.”
At press time, the Crayola Glass Tile Collection consisted of 60 individual SKUs including 42 different solid colors and 18 blends offered in 1-inch-by-1-inch mesh mounted in 12-inch-by-12-inch size making for easy installation. And, if showrooms or merchandising in general are part of your business, you’ll be glad to know an ensemble of Crayola glass tile merchandising materials have been designed to evoke that same Crayola packaging look that people know and love.
The colors as well are naturally reflective of those we all came to recognize and know by heart. Within this line you’ll find brilliant shades like Fire Engine Red, Taxi Cab Yellow, Deep Sea Blue, North Pole White and more. The saturated shades even take on different shapes, like the puzzle design shown above, and call to mind those unforgettable names like Cornflower and Midnight Blue.
Colorful Collaboration
“Crayola is a wonderful, well-respected American brand-name,” said Paul Young, chief executive officer of Miami-based Surfaces, Inc. “It’s a name associated with beautiful colors, creativity and, of course, with children.
“When one associates the word ‘kids’ with ‘creative colors,’ it’s a safe bet that the word ‘Crayola’ will pop up as well,” Young added, noting this is just the first of several planned collections between Surfaces and Crayola.
That’s good news because, despite the fact this line most definitely lends itself to a bright and cheerful kid’s room, the colors are so rich and so universally likable, there’s no reason they can’t be used all throughout a home.
