How to Replace the Brake Pads on a 2007 Lexus RX350
- 1). Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels one turn, using the lug wrench. Raise the front of the Lexus and place jack stands under the jack points, just to the rear of the front wheels. Lower the vehicle so that it rests on the jack stands. Remove the lug nuts and the front wheels.
- 2). Loosen the caliper bleeder screw on the top of the caliper, using a wrench. Insert the common screwdriver between the inside brake pad and the rotor. Pry the pad away from the rotor; this will push the caliper piston into its bore. Close the bleeder screw and tighten it to the point that it fees snug.
- 3). Remove the lower caliper mounting bolt, using a socket. Swing the lower part of the caliper up and off the rotor. Pull the brake pads out of the caliper mounting bracket.
- 4). Remove the new brake pads from the box and install the anti-rattle plates that accompany the pads to the rear of the new pads -- they are peel-and-stick plates. Look at the caliper-mounting bracket. Make sure the anti-rattle clips located in both ends of the bracket, where the ends of the pads are placed, are in position.
- 5). Place the new brake pads between the anti-rattle clips in the bracket. Lower the brake caliper over the pads and install the caliper mounting bolt. Tighten the bolt to 28 foot-pounds of torque.
- 6). Install the wheel and lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts until they touch the wheel. Do not attempt to torque them yet. Lower the Lexus to the ground. Tighten the lug nuts to 110 foot-pounds of torque.
- 7). Open the hood and refill the master cylinder reservoir with brake fluid. Start the vehicle and pump the brake slowly 10 times prior to attempting to move the vehicle.
