What Is the File Extension DWC?

    Emulex Updates

    • Emulex produces networking hardware, such as routers, bridges and switches. It occasionally produces software updates for these devices and the files containing these updates have the .dwc file extension.

    Compressed File

    • A now-defunct application called DWC Archiver used the .dwc file extension for compressed files. Current examples of file compression programs are WinZIP and WinRAR. The DWC Archiver served the same purpose as these programs, reducing the size of files on a computer. As the program is no longer in circulation at the time of publication, there is very little information available about this file type and there can be very few .dwc archive files left in the world.

    Netop Remote Control

    • Netop produces remote-control software enabling remote desktop viewing of other computers in a network. The company also uses this technology to distribute images to many computers. The main application for Netop software is in Education and Seminars. Netop is a Danish company and was originally called Danware Data. The system file used by Netop to store connection data has the file extension .dwc -- it's an abbreviation of Danware Connection.

    Bone Town

    • Bone Town is a computer game created by D-Dub Software. The program is aimed at an adult audience. It uses the .dwc file extension for graphics model files.

    Considerations

    • The four files types bearing the .dwc file extension are incompatible. DWC Archiver cannot read a .dwc file meant for the Bone Town game. A firmware update file produced by Emulex does not contain the necessary information required by Netop Remote Control for its connection file. The common usage of the .dwc file extension is purely coincidental.
