Directions for Installing Coilovers
- 1). Set up the coilover kit before you begin installation. Loosen the notched shock collar that secures the lower shock body by turning it with the shock collar wrenches supplied in the coilover kit. This allows you to thread the lower shock body down or up the threaded shock body. Thread the lower shock body downward to increase the overall shock length and decrease the vehicle ride height reduction. Thread the lower shock body upward to decrease the overall shock length and increase the reduction in ride height. Secure the lower shock body locking collar once the desired shock length is reached.
- 2). Repeat the coilover setup procedure for the three other shock and spring assemblies. Use a tape measure to measure each coilover and ensure their lengths are all equal. This is necessary to give the vehicle an even ride height.
- 3). Park the vehicle on a solid and even surface. Raise each side of the vehicle with a floor jack and support each corner of the chassis on a jack stand. Use a socket wrench to remove all the lug bolts that secure the wheels. Remove the wheels and set them aside.
- 4). Find the lower fork bolt on the front passenger-side shock. This bolt secures the lower shock body on the suspension control arm. Use a socket wrench to remove this bolt and slide the control arm down so it is free of the lower shock fork. Repeat this process for each of the other shocks.
- 5). Remove all the upper shock tower nuts. There are two nuts for each shock, securing the top of the shocks to the vehicle chassis. For the front shocks, the shock tower nuts can be accessed in the engine bay. For the rear shocks, the shock tower nuts can be accessed from the trunk or hatch area. Remove all eight shock tower nuts and work each spring and shock assembly free from the vehicle.
- 6). Reverse the procedure for removing the stock suspension to install the coilover kit. The coilover kit is a direct replacement of the stock suspension, therefore the works can be installed using the stock nuts and bolts. Once all four coilover assemblies are connected and secure, reinstall the vehicle wheels and tighten all the lug nuts by hand. Remove the jack stands from under the chassis and gently lower the vehicle off the floor jack. Use a socket wrench to tighten all the wheel lug nuts in a crisscross pattern.
- 7). Take the car to a professional alignment shop and have them aligned by a professional after the coilover installation is complete. Changing the vehicle ride height alters various dynamics of alignment, such as camber and toe angles. To ensure safe and proper vehicle handling, these alignment dynamics should be brought back to the manufacturer's specifications.
