    • 1). Turn the house stereo off. Plug one of the 3.5mm jack into a 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter. Plug the 6.3mm adapter into the house stereo. Most house stereos have a 6.3mm socket for headphones.

    • 2). Run the other end of the cable out to the car. Plug the 3.5mm jack into the radio's 3.5mm socket. Turn the car stereo on and check your car stereo owner's manual on how to switch to the auxiliary input. Some radios automatically switch to the auxiliary input when the radio detects an input signal on the auxiliary input. Set the volume at about 25 percent.

    • 3). Set the house stereo to its lowest level. Turn the house stereo on and slowly increase the volume to about 55 of its maximum value. Go back to the car and check for sound. Keep the house stereo volume low, but adjust the volume until no distortion is heard in the car.
