How to Operate a Battery Hand Drill
- 1). Connect the charger to the power supply.
- 2). Place the battery pack in the charging stand. The battery pack and the charger will have some kind of key, like a raised rib and groove, for example. This will ensure that the polarity is correct. Make sure the battery pack engages with the contacts. The light emitting diode (LED) will illuminate.
- 3). Allow the battery pack to charge. This can take a minimum of three hours, and sometimes longer. The LED will extinguish or change color when the pack is fully charged.
- 4). Check that the drill's direction of rotation selector is in the middle, neutral position and install the battery pack on the drill. Align any key---like the raised ribbing---with any grooves.
- 5). Latch the battery pack to the drill.
- 6). Install a bit. Check that the rotation selector is still in the neutral position. This is an important safety measure. Open the chuck jaws. Most drills don't need a chuck key, so just grasp the drill and unscrew the end of the chuck clockwise (if you are looking down the drill) to open the jaws.
- 7). Insert a bit and make sure it remains perpendicular as you tighten the chuck--anti-clockwise this time.
- 8). Switch the rotation selector to the "Forward" position.
- 9). Place the bit against the object to be drilled and, keeping your hands clear of the bit and chuck, slowly depress the trigger.
