How to Blow Dry Hair Properly & Keep Hair Healthy
- 1). Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner. Use a towel to dry it partially. Don't rub or twist hair with the towel, as that causes breakage--blot hair dry instead.
- 2). Apply a heat-protecting serum to your hair. This will help prevent heat damage from the hair dryer.
- 3). Separate hair into four even sections. Clip three of the sections up using the sectioning clips.
- 4). Turn the hair dryer on low or medium heat. Using high can cause more damage.
- 5). Take hold of a 2-to-4-inch section of the unclipped hair.
- 6). Gently pull a paddle brush if you want straight hair, or a round brush for texture and volume, through the section while running the hair dryer over it. Make sure the hair dryer is 5 to 6 inches away from your hair.
- 7). Work the brush and hair dryer through all the sections, from root to end. Leave hair slightly damp; it will quickly air-dry the rest of the way.
- 8). Press the cool air button on the hair dryer and run it over your hair. This closes the hair cuticles, which helps the style stay in place.
- 9). Apply a deep conditioner to your hair once a week and do not use a hair dryer unless necessary. This helps keep hair healthy and protects it from heat damage.
