During the frigid winter months, there are few modern home conveniences you appreciate more than your furnace.
But it's not uncommon for homeowners to forget to service the furnace before winter arrives.
We all have busy lives and it can be difficult to remember all of the maintenance tasks we need to perform in order to winterize our homes.
However, having the furnace serviced is one of the most important.
You don't want to wait until the temperature drops to freezing levels before you find out something is wrong with your heater.
A trained and experienced HVAC specialist should be called in to service your furnace at least once a year.
The technician will check all the parts of your furnace to make sure it's running properly.
If something needs replacing or repairing, the technician will let you know.
It's important to figure out furnace repair before the winter hits.
When you call in your technician, there may be a chance that he suggests it's time to purchase a new furnace.
This will only happen in a few situations.
If your furnace is more than 15 years old, it might be functioning less efficiently than a new furnace would.
In order to maintain a constant temperature, many old heaters have to work twice as hard to pump out heated air.
Another problem that can develop with old furnaces is an issue with carbon monoxide.
A furnace that is not heating as designed can produce toxic levels of carbon monoxide.
If this is the case, you'll want to purchase a new furnace as soon as possible.
