    • 1). Nail down the tackless strips around the perimeter of the room with carpet nails. Make sure that the teeth are facing the wall. Leave half an inch from the wall to the tackless strip.

    • 2). Center the carpet. Allow the carpet to curl at least six inches up the sides of the walls. Use a utility knife to cut the carpet in vertical strips so if fits snugly against the wall.

    • 3). Push the teeth of your knee kicker into the carpet one inch from the wall's corner. Press your knee into the knee kicker to force the carpet onto the tackless strips. It might take several tries to get the proper attachment.

    • 4). Work along the side of the wall with the knee kicker, stretching as you go. When you reach the end of the wall, you should use a carpet stretcher to attach the other side.

    • 5). Embed the teeth of the carpet stretcher six inches away from the wall. Press the lever to attach the carpet on the tackless strips. Push the carpet onto the strips.
