    • 1). Unravel the end of a skein of worsted weight yarn, and fold the end of the yarn over by 2 inches. Twist the fold to create a loop; then stick your thumb and forefinger into the loop. Grasp the hanging yarn between your thumb and finger, then pull it through the loop to cinch the yarn into a slip knot. Insert one of the knitting needles into the slip knot to cinch it onto the needle.

    • 2). Grasp the yarn that is hanging down in between your thumb and forefinger with your palm facing down and the yarn hanging over the back of your hand. Twist your hand so that your palm faces up, which will create a loop around your thumb. Insert the same knitting needle into the loop; then slide the loop off of your thumb. This completes the first cast-on "E" stitch. Repeat the process to cast on 25 stitches.

    • 3). Hold the needle with all of the stitches in your left hand, and the empty knitting needle in your right hand. Insert the right needle into the first stitch on the left needle; then wrap the hanging yarn around the right needle counterclockwise. Lower the wrapped right needle underneath the stitch on the left needle and slide the stitch off. This leaves the first knitted stitch on the right needle. Repeat to knit the entire row of stitches.

    • 4). Switch hands so the empty knitting needle is back in your right hand, and the full knitting needle in back in your left hand. Knit the stitches as before. Repeat the process until your knitting it at least 60 inches long.

    • 5). Insert the right needle into the first stitch on the left needle, and knit it as before. Slip the second stitch on the left needle directly onto the right needle and slide the first stitch over the stitch and off of the right needle. This completes the first cast-off stitch. Repeat to cast off all the stitches. Knot the last stitch onto the neighboring stitch.

    • 6). Cut three pieces of yarn using scissors to measure 8 inches long, and place all the yarn pieces together into a stack. Fold the stack of yarn in half, and grasp the loop in between your thumb and forefinger.

    • 7). Insert your thumb and forefinger on your left hand into the knitting along one short edge of the scarf; then grasp the loop of the yarn. Pull the loop of yarn halfway through the hole; then loop it over the ends of the yarn. Pull the ends of the yarn to cinch the yarn pieces into a tassel with 4-inch-long ends. Repeat to add tassels along both short ends of the knit scarf, spacing the tassels at least 1 inch apart.
